| As everyone would be aware, costs are rising across the board on a variety of materials and unfortunately timber has not escaped this increase. One of the reasons for this is that Russia produces over 20% of global timber supply whilst over 50% of Poland’s timber comes from Belarus. A high percentage of timber consumed in the UK from Europe originates from either Russia or Belarus, both of which have been sanctioned by the UK government and their governments have in turn banned timber exports to the West. Many vessels that bring timber into the UK have been turned away from our ports due to their connections with Russia, leading to long delays in timber imports. On top of this, sawmills are facing increasing energy costs, therefore dramatically increasing the cost of machining timber and placing further pressure on the supply chain. Taken as a whole, there is likely to be significant pressures on the global timber supply chain as western nations review their sources of timber supply and try to balance out the ever increasing cost of timber production. Thus far we have absorbed a the majority of cost increases that we have received from our suppliers and kept our prices consistent for our loyal customers since our last price review in January this year. Following conversations with our customers we are well aware the challenges this causes particularly with jobs that have already been quoted, so we wanted to give as much notice as possible before any of these price changes take effect in the coming months.
